This lecture was presented by Alex Moffatt who talked about the role of IT in Property Valuation. Unfortunately I missed this lecture because I was in New Zealand. The topic sounded interesting, so I discussed the lecture with my colleagues. Combing the information I gathered from them and the lecture slides, it seems that whilst the presentation was good, it may have lacked information relating to us in terms of building and project management, and rather focused more on trying to sell the Estate Manager program.

So in order to gain a personal perspective on how this program could be useful as a future project manager, I did some research. The program does look great. Out of the 5 different products the Estate Master software offers, two stood out for me. These are the Development Feasibility Software, and the Development Management Software. I think they’d be really useful. A few helpful things these products allow you to do include:

  • Report project variance – to client and keep the person paying the bills updated on the progress
  • Update project stock summary – to see what materials we have used, how much we have left, and how much more we will need
  • Estimate residential land value – to get a indication for property developers what the land is worth to then work out feasibility

Basically it’s like a second brain, or a first brain, I’m definitely not switched on enough to do these things as quick and effectively as the program does.

Overall, I think the program can easily be applied to real life situations and benefit your decision making in property and building. This again highlights how IT programs like these are becoming increasingly valuable in property and building. Stay posted!
